One Day at Hatyai Old Town Songkhla Southern Thailand – When we talk about having holiday at Hatyai in Songkhla Province of Thailand, most of us will talk about either floating market, sleeping Buddha or Samila Beach. However, there are other tourism spots in Hatyai that we should not miss.
Hatyai has its own beauty. To some people, it is a transit city where they can start the exploration to south part of Thailand from Hatyai. Honestly, Hatyai is more than that. I found a lot of interesting parts in this province. The good food, the cleanliness, interesting tourism sports as well as the hospitality of the local are the good points to visit Hatyai.
Luckily, I got a room at Get Guesthouse which location is very strategic. This guesthouse is really close to everything in town especially the dining places and the market. If you are interested to book a room at Get Guesthouse, you have to make early booking as this property is almost fully booked all the time.
From the guesthouse owner, I got information that Hatyai also has an old town area. It is more likely the one in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia but in term of size, it might be smaller.
She advised me to spend one day at Hatyai Old Town Songkhla Southern Thailand. Unfortunately, I had made an arrangement with the tuk-tuk driver to take me around Songkhla Province. Since old town is always interesting to me and my friends, it is a must to include it in our list.
We discussed with Uncle Pi Boon, the English speaking tuk-tuk driver who took us around. We came to an agreement to visit the Hatyai Old Town area for couple hours during our day trip. Too bad, we could not spend one day at Hatyai Old Town Songkhla Southern Thailand. It might be a sign that we should return to Hatyai someday.
Finally, we made it! We stopped by at Hatyai Old Town. It was about 45 minutes from Hatyai city center to reach this old town area. You will feel the Chinese sense at many points especially their charming architectures, Most of the buildings are similar to what we see in Penang or Malacca, Malaysia.
They also have street arts with beautiful and interesting murals at a lot of points. Unfortunately, I had no enough time to get around. I just visited some alleys and the big old rice mill and the port with huge ships parked. I believe these all brings more value for Songkhla tourism.
When you spend one day at Hatyai Old Town Songkhla Southern Thailand, you will be able to explore the area, as well as the tasty local food. No doubt that Thailand food is always tempting our appetite. Prepare yourself for walking around. Heat might stuck you so keep hydrate yourself.
