One of the popular area is Gurney Drive Hawker Center. It is located at out of the old town Georgetown but easy to access by public transportation. We could take bus and stop at across the Gurney Plaza then walk to hawker center.

Gurney Drive is a seafront promenade where you can enjoy the scenery and of course its street food. Gurney Drive even listed as one of the best street to visit according to Australian Travel Magazine.

It opens daily at 16.30 – 23.00. It is set up like an open air cafetaria. It will be better if you find seats before you place your order to one stall.  It will be better if you come  with friends, so one of you can keep the seats while other is ordering the food.

I came with 2 other friends. So, we wandered around to see all stalls until we spotted an empty table. We took turns to order the food to avoid others took our seats. Once you were at the property, you will how the crowd like never getting less even it was getting late. It was always busy.

Gurney Drive Hawker Center is like a home for all food lovers. You could eat noodle, barbeque, meatballs, char kway teow, fried oyster, grilled octopus, rojak, pasembur, dimsum and many more. Our tummy will be spoiled with all these food. Although all food is tempting, you should pay attention on what you ordered.

Do not be over expectation but still this place is worth to visit when you are in Penang.  Gurney Drive Hawker Center which was built in early 1970’s has the widest range of hawker food compare anywhere in Penang. No wonder it is best known hawker center in Penang. Just an advise, come early like at around 17.00 since it is still less crowded so we will get the seats easier.

If you want to go to the food paradise at Gurney Drive Hawker Center Penang by bus, you should take bus No. 103 from Komtar Center and stop at Gurney Plaza. Last bus from Gurney Plaza back to Komtar is at around 22.00. Later than this, I suggest you to take Grab service.
